This week Pacific peoples living and working in Waitakere City have been celebrated and honoured by the unveiling of "Folau" an artwork commissioned by Waitakere Council from leading Pacific artist Fatu Feu'u an Arts Laureate of that city. This beautiful large scale sculpture in wood, copper, bronze,natural shells and lashing was installed last week on the Airbridge between Waitakere City Council Offices and the Railway Station. It is a contemporary interpretation of the voyaging of Pacific people's past and present around the Pacific.   ... More

In conjunction with the British Council Australia, NZ artist Samapeap Tarr, a Cambodiam Nzer, was sent to the Melbourne Festival. While there, he teamed up with UK Islamic Grafitti artist Mohammed Ali. Birmingham-based Ali collaborated with 14 young Muslim women to create a street mural highlighting the importance of water in the current global environment. By the early '80s, the venue was host to some of New Zealand’s music icons; The Clean, Don McGlashan's Blam Blam Blam, and The Screaming Mee-Mees. Now, nearly 30 years later Liberty Stage will be reopening its doors as Liberty Gallery, a curatorial project initiated by Joanna Galvin and Leah Forsyth formerly of Cross Street Studios.
