Press Release from Paul Baragwanath | October 16, 2009
We hope you saw the TVNZ mention tonight, and invite you to keep an eye out in the coming days for media coverage of New Zealand painter Andre Hemer's unique umbrella
art project. Hemer's project forms part of the Art for a Cure exhibition, an intiative of
Breast Cancer Research Trust that opens to the public on Thursday at Hopetoun Alpha,
Beresford Square Auckland.
Hemer designed the umbrellas for Art for a Cure to literally take art out of the exhibition
space and into Auckland city.
This morning 256 Auckland Girls Grammar School students assembled on the School's
beautiful front lawn and formed the word "CURE" with the Hemer umbrellas and were
photographed and filmed from the air.
The project was possible only thanks to the generous support of:
• Antoinette Godkin Gallery, Auckland who represents Andre Hemer
• David Ponting Architecture for their brilliant architectural drawing that made
the image so precise and striking from the air
• Marnie Adams, Bayley's No. 1 Residential Agent since 2003, who has covered
the cost of the aerial photography and filming making the documentation of this
unique event possible
• Auckland Girls Grammar School, for their invaluable support and beautiful
grounds
We invite you to visit the Breast Cancer Research Trust website to view the catalogue in
anticipation of the opening of Art for a Cure. www.breastcancercure.org.nz
